Since the puppies have reached the age of 6 weeks old we have been introducing new activities each day. At this age we would also be introducing new people.............. if we weren't in the middle of a lockdown! They have met the neighbours - social distancing of course, but they really need more. So we've been rummaging through our wardrobes to see 'who' else the puppies can meet, so far they have met men in smelly overalls, bike clothes with helmets, a strange lady in a feather hat, people in high viz coats and people carrying bags and suitcases. They don't seem to be phased by anything we throw at them! The puppy play area has wobble cushions, a little bridge/ramp, a few small platforms, a tunnel, and a ball pit. Each puppy has been encouraged to walk over or interact with the different pieces of equipment using small pieces of chicken as reinforcement. This helps the puppies to gain confidence by making sure the puppies have positive experiences. The puppies are beginning to be more choosy about where they toilet and are using the toilet area at the end of their pen 'most' of the time. Puppies raised in a clean environment will be easier to toilet train as they are used to being clean. |
